Danny attended Deer Park high school and then later transferred to Sam Rayburn high school where he graduated in 1990. After high school graduation, his best friend Joe Cole talked him into joining the United States Air Force, he joined on October 22, 1992 and was honorably discharged on August 21, 1996 . During the four years he served, he was a senior airman in the third combat weather squadron division, stationed in Killeen Texas.
After completing his service to his Country, Danny enrolled into University of Houston, main campus to obtain his bachelors degree in education. He went on to teach Texas history and coach football, basketball, tennis and track. When he and Deanna met he worked for Channelview ISD. He then moved to the La Porte ISD school district and his final move as a teacher and a coach was at North Forest ISD.
Danny then went back to school, this time to University of Houston Clear Lake campus to achieve his masters degree and graduated with honors. Danny loved learning and had so much knowledge of just about everything. He used to joke with Deanna that he was the smartest man she knew (the inside joke was he wasn’t joking about it.) Danny was so much more intelligent than many realized. Danny loved history, the Astros and the Pittsburgh Steelers, he was an all-around sports fan and absolutely loved playing poker with friends. Danny was unique, he had a photographic memory and he also could just about fix anything.
Once again Danny decided to change careers and ended up working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Livingston Texas. He worked at the Allan B. Polunsky Unit, where he spent almost half the time working on death row with the rank of sergeant. He made friendships there that will definitely last a lifetime of memories. He was then promoted to lieutenant and transferred to the Carole Young unit in Texas City.
For the last time Danny changed careers. He got a job working as a furnace operator at JSW steel in Baytown Texas and worked there until he passed. No matter where Danny worked he made friendships.
Danny is survived by his wife of 17 years (together 19 years) Deanna Marie McKee. He has three stepchildren that he refused to refer to them as anything but HIS children. Daughters, Madison Ellyse Rodriguez, Mackenzie Lane Paula Barrera and son in law Juan. Son Hayden Alexander Rodriguez. Danny is also survived by his daughter Crystal Lee McKee Robinson, father Robert Ferris Dethlefs, father in law Greg Douglas and his partner Brenda Brown, mother in law Deborah Douglas, brother in law Joseph Scott Douglas and wife Audrey, one niece Celeste Douglas and brother in law Cody Colvin.
Danny was reunited with his late mother Bobbie that he has mourned for the past 4 1/2 years, best friend Joe and his two dogs Nala and DJ at the pearly gates. We are heartbroken over his sudden loss but he is at peace with no more pain. He will be missed so much and we pray he knows how much he was loved.
