Dorothy Lee Edwards, 87, of Dickinson, Texas, passed away on February 19, 2016. On November 14, 1928, in Liberty, Texas, a beautiful baby girl, Dorothy, was born to Henry C. Clay and Beatrice Steward. Dorothy grew up in the home of her maternal grandparents, Addie and David (Papa) Steward. Dorothy, the eldest of her five siblings, learned to love unconditionally with compassion to the needs of others.
At an early age, Dorothy confessed Christ Jesus as her Savior. Dorothy, a woman of Divine Faith, learned to depend upon the loving care of her Heavenly Father. At age fourteen, Dorothy Clay married Dan Edwards of Liberty, Texas. Approximately nine years later, she gave birth to their first child and they named her Dianna. As God would have it, eleven months later their second child, Linda, was born. Over the next several years, Dorothy gave birth to Barbara, Shelia, Dana and Darrell. Dorothy, the primary provider for her six children, depended upon the Lord to guide her life. She worked for over 20 years at the Dickinson Independent School District in the food service department. Dorothy trusted Christ as the Shepherd who watched over her household, met her needs, and the needs of her children. Dorothy’s relationship with Christ Jesus assured her internal comfort and peace as she entered into God’s Holy Kingdom.
As a young woman, Dorothy’s family and friends referred to her by the nickname “BabyRuth.” However, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren know her as MeeMaw. Dorothy passes a legacy of unconditional love from one generation to the next generation.
She is survived by her sister, Lois Richards (Joel); her children and grandchildren Zaneta Maples (Corey), Tie Cooper, Wayne Edwards (La Vonda), Ryan Woods, TyNila Williams, Gregory Bimage, Jr. (LaNeShia), Monté Chandler, Maurié Chandler, Darrell Edwards, Jr., Trinity Edwards, Donovan Edwards, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in League Coty, Texas. The Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with interment to immediately follow at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
