

Dorothy Ann Reid, a longtime resident of Texas, passed away peacefully in Friendswood, TX on December 23, 2025. Born in San Antonio on August 10, 1930, to Roberto Balboa and Janice Aileen Salas, Dorothy Ann lived a rich and fulfilling life of 95 years, touching countless lives with her warmth and kindness. One of her fondest memories of childhood was when her father was stationed on Puerto Rico, where she and her sister attended school and played on the beaches with other children of U.S. Air Force families.
Dorothy Ann’s life was marked by a deep love for her family and an unwavering commitment to education and hard work. She graduated from Brackenridge High School and attended Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. She later pursued additional college courses in North Harris Community College and San Jacinto College. Her passion for learning and self-improvement led her to earn her real estate license, demonstrating her resilience and tenancy.
Throughout her life, Dorothy Ann held many challenging and interesting jobs. At the tender age of 16, she worked for a professional photographer in San Antonio. She worked at University of Kentucky, Top Value Stamp Store Manager in Anderson, IN, Toys International in Dayton, Ohio, Texaco Oil in Houston, TX, the City of Houston, and after retiring, she worked part time at the Sam Houston Race park. Among her many accomplishments she was runner up for Miss Kelly Field in 1948.
Dorothy Ann loved traveling, going to the beach, and developed a love for horses and horse racing when the family lived in Lexington, KY. She traveled extensively with her husband Charles and other family visiting places like England, France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Mexico, China and several Caribbean Islands.
It was not just her professional achievements that made Dorothy Ann a remarkable woman, she was known for her beautiful spirit, a warm and caring presence that made everyone around her feel loved and appreciated. She was the beacon of strength and love for her family.
Dorothy Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Roberto Balboa and Janice Aileen Salas, her husband Charles Earle Reid, two of her children, Thomas Allen and Di Ann Reid, and a granddaughter, Nora Hayes.
She is survived by her loving sister, Janice Schultz, her sister Karen and brother-in-law, Donald Sebesta; her children Robert Paul and Lucy Reid, Genie and Dennis Hayes, Charmaine and Allen Steiner; her grandchildren: Travis Hassloch and Natalia Idzkowski, Chris and Courtney Landoll, Elizabeth Reid, Charlie Reid, Blake and Leanna Hayes, Joe and Amy Hayes, Emily Triola, Audrey Hayes, and Charlie Hayes; her great-grandchildren Sydney Landoll, Daniel, Gavin, and Carley Hayes, Caleb and Veda (Bug) Hayes, Grant, Chase and Ava Campbell, and Avery Triola. As well as many nieces and nephews who loved her.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Samaritan’s Purse International Disaster Relief.
Dorothy Ann Reid's life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and a life well-lived. Her legacy will live on I the hearts of her loved ones and the many lives she touched.
