Edward Carleton Moseley was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 6, 1928 and passed away July 18, 2012 in Webster, Texas. Ed was born to Sadie and Edward Bacon Moseley. He was the youngest, the only son with five sisters. He holds a PhD in Psychology. After graduation, he worked for the VA as a Research Psychologist for 3 years in Perry Point, Maryland. He received a competitive appointment to a Medical Fellow at Johns’ Hopkins University and worked at NASA Headquarters in Washington. NASA transferred him to Houston, Texas to work at the Manned Spacecraft Center 1966. He was assigned to the Medical Sciences Division and provided support as a statistician and mission support during the Apollo EVA’s. He was instrumental in the design of the MSD computer network and the first on-line Life Sciences database. He was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work on the Apollo XIII mission.
Ed was later married to Glenda Ward Cameron in 1983 after they had dated since around 1976. He continued to be a positive influence on his new family with his broad life experience and treasure of knowledge. He inspired Glenda’s children to pursue higher education. His example of a person who did not start out well but ended well showed his family that they too could attain their dreams. And have a better understanding of our world. He was a great father to his new children and was always available with help for projects, counseling, and plenty of insight into many subjects.
Ed was an excellent carpenter. Major projects were never too daunting to him. He added a major addition onto his new mother-in-law’s home in Galveston. He also added several major updates and rooms onto their existing home in Clear Lake City making it much more livable.
He retired from NASA in 1990 but continued in a consulting role. Retirement did not slow him down… it just gave him more time to work on his favorite hobbies. Like home building projects, travelling, interacting with his many close Russian friends.
Ingenuity, determination, and guts were some of Ed’s most notable qualities. Also add a generous portion of listener and generosity to that.
It would take a novel to do justice to all of Ed’s accomplishments. One of his greatest gifts seen throughout his life was his innate ability to teach by example.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, daughter Theresa and Kyle McCreary, step-son Patrick and Dianne Cameron, step daughter Brenda and Mark Thompson, step-daughter Linda Cameron, 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 22, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 10:00 am, at Forest Park East Funeral Home.
