Eleanor Ann “Sis” Hyatt, of Cypress, Texas, was called home on August 19, 2024. She was born in Houston, Texas on November 3, 1933, to George Loniel “Lonnie” and Georgie Mary Antoinette “Dolly” Stewart. She grew up in Deer Park, Texas where she met Ralph “Skip” Hyatt whom she dated on and off throughout high school and college. “Sis,” as she was known, attended North Texas State Teachers College and Sam Houston State Teachers College. She graduated from Sam Houston and started her career in education as a P.E. teacher. Sis and Skip married August 2, 1958, in Houston. After 3 failed pregnancies, they were blessed with a daughter, Mary Irene, on December 30, 1966, and then a son, Matthew Nelson, on September 27, 1969.
Sis and Skip became founding members of Cypress United Methodist Church in 1966 and were active, loving members. Sis worked as a Wee Wuns teacher and then church receptionist totaling 34 years of employment by the church until retiring in 2006. As a retirement gift, the church arranged for Sis to throw out the first pitch at an Astros game, one of her greatest accomplishments. She was one of Houston’s biggest sports fans and loved all things Astros, Rockets, Texans, and even the Oilers.
After retirement, she enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, participating in Bible study, teaching Sunday School, attending her grandkids’ sports games and school events, and going to Walmart.
She loved God, her immediate family, her extended family, her church family, her Wee Wuns family and her YMCA family. She treasured time spent with those she loved at Garner State Park, New Braunfels, South Padre Island, and any road trip she could attend. She fancied having her hair and nails in glamorous condition with a cute matching outfit.
Waiting for her at the door to Heaven were her parents, Lonnie and Dolly Stewart, her husband, Skip Hyatt, her daughter, Mary Irene Hyatt Smith, and her brother, James “Jimmy” Stewart.
She is survived by her son, Matt Hyatt and his wife, Kristy; grandchildren, Travis Hyatt and his wife, Kellan, Emily Hyatt, Austin Hyatt, Billy Smith; her brother, Hubert Stewart; her sisters, Shirley Taylor, Mary Blount and her husband, Sammy; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
