Dear Cipriana and Luis,
I just learned of the passing of your parents. I am so sorry. Such a tremendous loss. Your father taught me so much over the years that I worked for him at RiceTec. His loyalty and dedication to his work was remarkable. What was even more remarkable was his love for his family. I learned so many wonderful things about you both and your oldest brother Federico. He was always telling me about what was happening in your lives and he did it with such pride. He loved your mama just as fiercely. You were all jewels in his crown and he carried you all with him proudly each day. Your father got me through a tough time in my life. His loyalty and fatherly love toward me saved me many a time. Your mama would always make sure I knew that y’all loved me with gifts on my birthday, admin asst day and Christmas. Her generosity and thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. Thank God this is but a lifetime and eternity awaits us with our loved ones forever.

I am so sorry, Romana, to hear of your loss. I worked with Federico for many years at RiceTec.  He was a major contributor to the success of the company, very smart, but importantly to me, such an enjoyable person to be with. I went with him many times down to our operations in South America. One particular trip was memorable when we took Prince Hans-Adam around southern Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina in a bus. We stayed at some pretty grubby places out in the countryside. I remember the look on Federico's face when Prince Hans Adam told us at breakfast how he had rescued a very large spider in his room and put it outside. Sorry not to have seen more of Federico since my retirement. You are in my prayers.

Dear Ramona, Cipriana and Luis,

We are so sorry for your loss.  Federico was a good friend and we worked with him during his entire career at RiceTec starting with his first role opening the business in South America.  We celebrated his many successes like the patents for new herbicide technologies and his promotion to VP, leading global research.  We were also there for the tougher times like when the company sent him to Venezuela, on a soon to be expiring visa, and he was stranded for weeks and missed Cipri’s quinceanera.  Also, the many business travel stories like missing flights, traveling in the middle of the night and sleeping on the floor in airports.  

We are praying for you.  


Very much enjoyed working with Federico at RiceTec. Really appreciated him taking time to help me understood the many advances in rice seed research RiceTec achieved and leading tours when we brought important clients in. His knowledge of the science of rice helped us succeed with RiceSelect, especially with the consistency of our seed for Texmati Rice. Please accept our sincere condolences.

I first met Federico when we were both students at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez. After graduation we found each other again in Santiago, Dominican Republic. Brilliant mind and great friend! His passing at a relatively young age hurts a lot.
