Floy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bobby as well as her parents Floyd and Mina Roberds, older sisters Edith Belle Mears and Carol Lowery, and brother Ely Columbus Roberds.
She is survived by her sons Kenneth Lee Brown and wife Andrea of League City, Texas, and Steven Gene Brown and partner David Joseph of Houston, Texas; her brother-in-law Billy Brown and wife Gail of Leander, Texas, and sister-in-law Jimmie Brown of Nacogdoches, Texas. Additionally, she is survived by 4 grandchildren Addison Taylor Brown, Avery Lauren Taylor and husband Will, Kayla Leigh Sager and husband Michael, and Collin David Brown and wife Makinsie, as well as Cameron, Isla, Colton, Margot, Camille, and Roy, her 6 precious great grandchildren. Floy also leaves behind many dear nieces and nephews.
Floy was an accomplished cook with many signature dishes family members enjoyed over the years. She was known for her fried chicken, chicken fried steaks, and her perfect pie crusts. A family favorite was shrimp, a regular Sunday lunch offering after church, fried to perfection, creating a culinary standard hard to match. Floy baked wonderful pies, with her cherry pie long reigning as one of her family's favorites.
Floy was very creative and worked with a variety of artistic expressions. She painted in many different mediums and was known to give her art to neighbors, family, and friends. Some of her paintings are still displayed in the homes of her children and grandchildren, clearly cherished gifts. She also enjoyed creating ceramic art. Floy was an excellent seamstress creating outfits and clothing for herself and others. At a young age, she was taught how to hand piece quilts, and this became a lifelong passion for her. Each family member was gifted a special quilt “ with love.”
Floy enjoyed traveling. She and Bobby, as well as some of her friends, took many memorable trips together. Some of the places she enjoyed visiting were New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Washington. She was also an avid reader, enjoying a wide variety of genres.
Her family loved Floy's willingness to try new things. She learned to snow ski at the age of 47! She enjoyed going on ski trips with Bobby and his work buddies as well as taking family ski trips to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. She retired from skiing to watch over her grandbabies in the ski lodge, so their parents could learn to ski and enjoy ski runs on the mountain. Later when the grandkids were old enough to ski, she proudly watched them join their parents on the slopes.
Floy was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of South Houston. She served her Lord and church in many ways. She helped prepare meals for church families who were bereaved and regularly worked in the kitchen for congregational meals. She worked with Acteens (a missions group for grades 6-12), participated in VBS and mission trips, and was very involved with the Seniors who met for devotionals, meals, activities, and service.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Brookdale/Atria/Morada for sharing and celebrating life with Floy while she was there. Additionally, the family would like to express deep gratitude to the caring staff of Faith Community Hospice and Sterling Oaks Assisted Living/Memory Care whose kind, compassionate, and empathic concern for Floy brought peace and comfort to Floy during her final chapter
