

He was drafted into the U.S. Army just before completing his studies at New Mexico State University. While in the Army, he met the love of his life, Judith Ann (Webb) Melder. They were married and enjoyed nearly 50 loving years together.
George had a career in chemical engineering with his final position being plant manager for Dallas Group of America in Texas City, TX. He retired in 2000 after 31 years of service. George loved watching and participating in sports. Over the years, he learned Judo, took up golfing, and took his sons on many hunting trips. He was active in coaching their baseball teams. George also kept up with sports teams in his later years, particularly the Steelers and Penguins.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann Melder; his sons, George Joseph "Bud" Melder and Timothy Scott Melder; and his parents, George P. and Julia Melder.
He is survived by his son and wife, Gary Stephen and Suellyn Melder; granddaughter, Shannon Marie Melder, and grandsons Joseph Maxwell Melder and Zachariah Scott Melder and wife, Normelle Melder; one great grandson, Timothy Isaac Melder. George is also survived by his brother and wife, Jerry and Lynn Melder, along with nieces and their spouses, Julie and Rufus Jenkins and Andy and Diane Norman.
