The family later moved to Deer Park, TX, where Hubert attended school. After graduating from Deer Park High School, Hubert attended Rice University on a five-year program to attain a Bachelors and Masters degrees in Chemical Engineering. He played baseball and basketball at Rice, but a knee he injured in high school limited his playing career.
Hubert married Vera DeMonbrun in 1956. They moved to nearby Houston where Hubert began his career at Shell Oil. They had three daughters: Audrey, Suzanne, and Deanna.
Hubert was offered a position with Brown and Root at NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center (later Johnson Space Center) near Clear Lake, TX. He moved the family to Pearland, TX where he helped complete construction of the new family home. That home was the scene of many family celebrations. It was filled with warmth, joy, and love.
Hubert was a member of the Pearland United Methodist Church where he and Vera taught Sunday school and were MYF counselors. His had a strong faith which he lived daily.
Football was a big part of his life, first as a player, and later as a high school football official of over 30 years. He also organized the team that carried the chains at Rice home football games, which he did well into his 80's.
An equally large part of Hubert’s life was Garner State Park, where the Deer Park football team would do preseason training. Vera also went there in high school to practice with the cheerleaders. He introduced this wonderful park to his daughters, their husbands, and children. Garner was a prime gathering place for all the Stewarts for many years.
Family was central to Hubert's life. He enjoyed close ties to his daughters, their husbands and children as well as his siblings and their children. Gatherings of the entire Stewart family were always looked forward to with joy.
Hubert is preceded in death by his wife, Vera, his parents, Dolly and George, as well as his brother, Jimmy and sister Eleanor. He is survived by his loving daughters Audrey Stewart-Vuper (Mike), Suzanne Stewart-Daumas (Henri), Deanna Stewart-Knight (Lannie), granddaughters Tessa and Ailie Vuper, grandsons Mason and Wyatt Daumas and a host of beloved family members including sisters, nieces, and nephews.
