Jackie “Jack” Garland Roach was born September 9, 1942, in Brady TX to Jessie and Vashti Roach. Jack had two older sisters, Luvera Ponder (d) and Nita Ford. When Jack was a young child the family moved to San Antonio, Tx where Jessie painted vehicles, cannons and airplanes for the military during WWII.
Jack met his future bride, Carolyn Joyce Kee, one afternoon when Carolyn was looking for someone to play ping pong with. Carolyn (aged 7) found Jack (9) and his friend playing “Bomb the Ants” - a game he had created using kerosene, paper airplanes and matches. They began dating in high school, and after high school Jack joined the US Air Force. Jack and Carolyn were engaged for 4 years and married January 16, 1965, in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho. For the next 60 years they worked as a faithful team, a Biblical example of how marriage should be.
Jack was a loving “Daddy”, “Papa” and “Great-Papa” to his daughters and their families:
Michelle Rene, her husband David Lewis, and their children Gregory Lewis (with his wife Jenna and their daughter Emma Virginia, due in June), Brett Lewis, Joanna Lewis, Debra DeeAnn Hornsby and her children Joshua Hornsby and Makenna Hornsby.
He did his best to make each one of them feel special in love and was always there to show his love and support
Jack retired from the US Air Force with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant after 20 years of service. For his second career he worked with various contractors with NASA in the Space Shuttle Program, finally retiring again from SAIC.
Jack was a faithful man of God. He enjoyed serving the Lord and made it a point to have his grandchildren serve with him. He felt great joy when each of the grandkids were baptized. Jack was honored to serve the Lord’s church as an elder. He took his role as shepherd of God’s flock seriously and strove to follow God’s word when serving alongside the other elders at church. He loved and cared deeply for the brothers and sisters in Christ.
Jack gained his final reward as a faithful servant of the Lord on February 24, 2025, when he received his crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.
