John Albert Black

John (Sonny) was born in Madisonville, Texas on February 14, 1931 to MJ & Hattie Black in Madisonville, Texas.

Sonny married the love of his life, LaVerne Black on May 17th, 1953 and they were together 67 years until LaVerne passed on November 17, 2019. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Bacliff, Texas to settle down and raise their family. During this time, Sonny worked for Exxon Mobile as a plant foreman in Clear Lake City until his early retirement 44 years later.

He is preceded in death by his parents, MJ & Hattie Black and his wife, LaVerne Black and is survived by his daughter, Tana Thompson , son in law ,Greg Thompson, son, Damon Black, and his grandchildren, Taylor & Hunter Thompson

Sonny was an active member of the Bayshore Friends Church and his greatest passion was his family. He was a man of few words but great wit, a kind soul that would always listen without judgement. His grandchildren loved him for his gentle guidance as well as his dry humor when it was least expected. We love you Daddy and will miss you until we meet again.

A funeral service for Sonny will be held Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598. A committal service will immediately follow at Forest Park East Cemetery
