

He was born in Robstown, Texas on August 27, 1944 to Francisco Olivarez and Teresa Cruz. Jose retired after 36 years from NASA Johnson Space Center serving as an Engineer and Safety, Quality & Assurance Manager. In addition, he retired from the United States Army, Master Sergeant after honorably serving 33 years.
Throughout his commitment to his country, he carried the values of duty, discipline, and service with him—values that shaped the husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor he would become.
He was giving of his time and leadership qualities serving as the Chair – Supervisory Committee, Johnson Space Center Federal Credit Union, St Frances Cabrini – Chair of the Financial Committee, Caballeros De Colon – 4th degree (Knight of Columbus) and member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He leaves behind a legacy of faith, humility, service, and unwavering integrity.
At the heart of Jose’s life was a deep, enduring love for his wife, Gloria. Their marriage was a true testament to lifelong commitment—a partnership built on faith, mutual respect, and unwavering devotion. To those who witnessed their bond, it was clear that theirs was a love that endured all things and stood as an example of what a lifetime of companionship and dedication should be.
Jose’s love extended even further to his children and grandchildren, who were the pride and joy of his life. He celebrated their accomplishments, supported their dreams, and surrounded them with warmth, encouragement, and unconditional affection. His gentle guidance, his steady presence, and his deep, abiding love will continue to shape their lives for generations to come.
Above all, Jose was a man of faith. His relationship with God guided his decisions, his actions, and the way he treated others—with patience, compassion, and unconditional love. He led by example, teaching those around him that strength is most powerful when exercised with kindness.
He will be remembered as a loving father, a loyal friend, and a man whose quiet wisdom brought out the best in everyone around him. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the faith he inspired, and the love he gave so freely.
Jose M. Olivarez, Sr. leaves behind a family grateful for the gift of his life and comforted by the knowledge that he now rests peacefully in the presence of the Lord he faithfully served.
He was preceded in death by Francisco Olivarez (Father), Teresa Cruz Cisneros (Mother), Pedro Cisneros (Step-Father) Dora Rojas (sister), Josie Acuna (sister), Joe Frank Olivarez (Brother) and Connie Olivarez (sister).
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Gloria Olivarez, beloved children Jose M. Olivarez Jr. and wife Marian Olivarez, Melissa Rodriguez and husband David Rodriguez, Brenda Olivarez-Green and husband Garran Green, six wonderful grandchildren Nicholas Olivarez, Kaitlyn Olivarez, Ashley Olivarez, Madeline Moreno and husband Jarrad Moreno, Matthew Sanchez and Brandon Sanchez and his sisters Rosa Hernandez, Mary Avina , Irene Martinez and Regina Olivarez.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, rosary, 6:00 pm and Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Forest Park East Funeral Home in Webster, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 12:00 pm at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Houston, Texas with interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery.
