December 7, 1951 – June 8, 2025
Lawrence Cornelius McNeal, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, entered eternal rest on June 8, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on December 7, 1951, in Houston, Texas, Lawrence was the cherished son of the late John Cornelius and Anna Marie McNeal. He was raised in the neighborhoods of Studewood and Acres Homes, where he learned the values of faith, family, and service.
As a child, Lawrence was introduced to the Lord through Bethlehem Baptist Church in Houston, where his parents were faithful members. His love for Christ took root early and flourished throughout his life. He began his service to the church at a young age, eventually becoming the Sunday School Superintendent, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to ministry and community.
Lawrence was educated in the Houston Independent School District and graduated with honors from Booker T. Washington Senior High School in 1970, proudly ranking third in his class. A gifted musician, he played the trumpet in the school's “Baby Ocean of Soul” Marching Band, a passion that would continue to echo through his life in song and spirit.
Professionally, Lawrence dedicated over four decades of loyal service to Lubrizol Corporation. He was known not only for his work ethic but for the kindness and mentorship he extended to colleagues throughout his career.
Lawrence was a faithful member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in La Porte, Texas. He served diligently as a Deacon, a devoted choir member, and an insightful Sunday School teacher. He was a pillar in his church community — a man whose presence was uplifting, and spiritually grounded.
A man of many passions, Lawrence found joy in life’s simplest pleasures. He loved fishing, riding his bike, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and was known for his love of fast cars. His quick wit and infectious smile could light up a room, and he was a natural motivator who uplifted those around him. He loved to cook and passed down his recipes and techniques to his children through laughter-filled, late-night kitchen lessons.
Lawrence was deeply proud of his family. He was their biggest cheerleader, always shouting “Outstanding!” from the sidelines of his grandson’s football games with pride and joy. His legacy lives on through the generations who carry his name and the spirit of excellence he instilled in them.
He is survived by his wife, Camellia Charles-McNeal; sister, Dianna McNeal-Martin; and brother, Ronald Cornelius McNeal. He leaves behind his loving children: Crystal Roan (Eric), Valarie Scott (John), Stacy Broome (Jesse), and Matthew Lawrence McNeal, Etienne Charles-McCauley; his adoring grandchildren: Ethan Cornelius McNeal, Madison Blake, Mia Cooper, Myles Cornelius Blake, and Julian Cornelius Cooper; great-grandchildren: Greyson Cornelius McNeal and Zy’Mir Blake; and his loving dog Jazzy. He is also remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Jeremy Cornelius McNeal, and his brother, Jerome Cornelius McNeal. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing he has reunited with those who went before him, welcomed home with the words, “Well done.”
We will forever cherish the memories, the laughter, and the love he shared. His legacy is etched in our hearts — a life lived with purpose, service, and grace.
