We are sad to announce the passing of Marjorie Louise Grace Stevens. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on March 5, 1929 and peacefully passed on Friday, October 14, 2022 in LaPorte, Texas, at the age of 93. She was a woman of strong faith and set an excellent example for her daughters to follow. Her tithe to the church took priority over any other spending.
Her life rotated around her family and she was never happier than when she was surrounded by them. At family gatherings, she was content to just sit among everyone and take it all in, although if anyone mentioned a game of 42, she was the first one at the table. Her love of camping was an activity that she shared with 2 generations of her family. She also enjoyed cruising and would never turn down an occasional trip to a casino.
Her favorite part of the day was receiving daily phone calls from her three daughters. But heaven help the daughter who missed making that call because the ultimate “worrier” would not be at peace until the whereabouts and safety of that daughter was confirmed. Of course, how many times did she not answer her daughters’ calls because she was playing Bingo or Rummikub with other residents at her assisted living!
In her husband, Sam’s, last years, she exemplified Proverbs 31:10 “An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels.” She never missed a day of being with him and caring for him, even while he was in an extended care facility.
Over the years she faced many health obstacles, but rebounded from each of them and always met the challenges of rehab with determination. She had just successfully fought her way through the latest health crisis when God chose to reward her with a seat right next to Him. The loss of her presence leaves a huge void in the lives of her family, but knowing that she is now free of physical limitations and is dancing in Heaven eases their sorrow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband R.D. “Sam”, her two brothers Jack and Lyle and her constant companion, her dog Lucky.
She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Stevens of Pasadena, Tx, her daughter Cindy Brill and husband Larry of Baytown,TX. and her daughter Judy Werner and husband Alan of San Antonio, Tx. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristen Hailey and husband Stephen, Allisa Brill and husband Andy, Ryan Brill and wife Marley, Corey Werner and wife Hilary and Tyler Werner and wife Cali, as well as her 7 great-grandchildren: Emily, Grayson and Penelope Hovis, Jillien Hailey, Jaxon Brill and Max and Jude Werner. And the family graciously thanks the wonderful staff at Parsons House (La Porte) for their loving care and dedication.
Because of Marjorie’s love for animals, the family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Pasadena Animal Shelter located at 5150 Burke, Pasadena, Texas.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ForestParkEast-FHC.com for the STEVENS family.
