

Marvin Daniel Parker, 94, of League City, Texas, passed away on Memorial Day, May 25, 2026. He was born in Palestine, Texas, on December 31, 1931, to Birdie Elizabeth Cook Parker and Lawrence Perry Parker Jr. He was married to Joan Ruth Boyd Parker for 53 years.
Marvin’s glass was always half-full. His gentle, mild-mannered demeanor and kindness were his gift to everyone he knew. His calm and steady presence in any situation he was in showed that he was blessed with the patience of Job. He was devoted to his family and worshiped his wife. He was very social and loved to go to dance. Marvin never missed any of his University of Houston Cougars games.
Sixty days after high school graduation, he was in San Diego, California for basic naval training placing him into the early stages of the Korean Conflict. During the Korean War between 1949 and 1953, while serving in the United States Navy, he worked in communications, radar systems, and weapons systems on the U.S. submarines USS Queenfish and USS Archerfish. After serving for 4 years and ranking as an E-5 Petty Officer 2nd Class, he received an honorable discharge and started his 4 years at college at The University of Houston. He was a member and president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and sang every year at the annual University of Houston Frontier Fiesta. He was a member and President of the Oklahoma Chapter of the University of Houston Alumni.
Marvin had a career in insurance management for AIG, the largest insurance company in the United States. The entire family was transferred to Athens, Greece, in 1970 for three years. Here, he traveled to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa to sell group insurance to American Corporations abroad. Upon returning to the U.S., he worked for the United States Department of Treasury as an IRS agent for 25 years. He was named the AICPA Agent of the Year in 1994 and 1995 for the Houston region.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Lawrence Parker Jr., Adolph Parker, and sister Ellawese Parker Neely, the love of his life, his wife, Joan Parker, and children, Michael Parker and Diana Hamilton.
Marvin is survived by his daughter, Dr. Patricia Parker of League City, Texas; great grandson, Walker Jones of League City, Texas; granddaughter, Michelle Aguilar and husband, Sean; children, Brooklyn and Alexander; grandchildren, Kate Travis, Courtney Marshall, and Michael Parker Jr.; nieces, Rae Nell Thompson and Susan Sparling; and nephews, Hubert Parker, Harley Parker, Timothy Neely, Mark Neely, and Bill Neely.
