Michael “Mike” Scherm peacefully passed away in his home in Pasadena, Texas, on September 6, 2012 at the age of 61. By the Grace of God, he fought an amazing two and a half year battle against kidney cancer. He was born August 21, 1951 in Mariemont, Ohio to Richard and Elizabeth Scherm.
Mike met the love of his life Stina Dalva while they both attended Toms River High School in Toms River, New Jersey. This year they celebrated 39 years of marriage. Mike is survived by his devoted wife Stina, his three sons Kris, Karl, and Kevin, his Mother-in-law Ellen Dalva, daughter-in-laws, Deedra and Jessi, seven grandchildren, David, Keifer, Charlie, Lars, Stina, Petra, and baby girl on the way, and five older siblings, Rosie, Jo Ann, Dick, Beth, and Jack.
Mike received his BS degree in Environmental Science from Rutgers University, and his Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Purdue University. He began his career at Union Carbide for 15 years and then served as Director of Logistics for BP Solvay, as well as various leadership roles and board positions with several companies and organizations throughout his career. He was a long standing HTPA member, and founder and owner of Savvy Business Matters LLC with almost 35 years in the plastics and chemical industry. Mike was known for his loyal friendship, spontaneous songs with his guitar for the grandchildren, his much sought after Savvy Seasoning, and his deep love for his wife and God. He enjoyed life golfing, motorcycling, fishing, hunting, gardening and more with his family and friends.
Throughout his cancer battle, Mike often quoted Ps. 118:17 saying he was “alive to proclaim what the Lord has done.” Mike left this earth proclaiming that we should put all of our hope and trust in Jesus Christ…despite any success, failure, trial, or joy.
