Nancy Sue Carroll Lindsey, also known as Sue or Meme to her family and friends, passed away on Thursday, April 2nd, 2015 at the age of 77. Sue was born on February 12, 1938 in Durant, Oklahoma. As a child, she loved spending time with her Granny Harmon, playing with her pets, and watching her dad coach ball games. Raised in a family of educators, Sue naturally pursued a career in education. She completed both her Bachelor’s Degree and her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma.
After traveling abroad in Europe, Sue began her teaching career in Hobbs, New Mexico in the early 1960’s. After a whirlwind courtship, she met and married her late husband of forty-one years, Ronald Lindsey, on August 27, 1966. Their teaching careers brought them to Pasadena, Texas in 1967, where they built a home and a family. That same year, Sue began her 40 plus years of lovingly teaching 2nd grade in Pasadena Independent School District. Through the years, Sue taught at Mae Smythe Elementary, J.D. Parks Elementary, and Young Elementary before retiring in 2008.
Sue and Ron raised their two girls, Leah and LaRay, in the same Pasadena home they built in 1967. The Lindsey house was always the “fun” place to be in the neighborhood, and many happy childhood memories were created there for the girls that lived on the block. Sue never met a stranger, and everyone was always welcome at her house. They shared many joyful years there together playing board games, shopping, and celebrating holidays with family and friends.
Sue was also a long standing member of South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena. She worked with her babies, as she liked to refer to them, in the nursery for many years. Sue always knew that being with children was the place for her.
After retiring, Sue enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Travis, Christen, Jake, and Tyler and her pets. Even after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2011, Sue continued to love life and live it to the fullest, never passing up a bowl of ice cream or a bar of chocolate.
Sue in preceded in death by her parents, George and Mattie Carroll, Aunt Ola Ray Harmon, sister Jimaleah Franklin, brother-in-law Joe Franklin, and husband Ronald Lindsey. Sue is survived by her daughters Leah Minter and husband Chris, LaRay Fayad and husband John, grandchildren Travis Lindsey, Christen and Jake Minter, and Tyler Fayad.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Cindy Fayad and Chrysti Galbreath for their continued love and care of Meme for the past several years.
