Nelwyn Heffington Foley went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2026. She was born in Cameron, Texas, on July 23, 1938, to James and Agnes Heffington. She grew up in Houston, Texas, and was a member of Second Baptist Church. She graduated from San Jacinto High School, where she was a member of the Golden Gauchos drill team. During this time, she met the love of her life, Lewis.
She attended Baylor University and Georgetown College in Kentucky, but she decided getting her M.R.S. was what she really wanted, and so she and Lewis eloped in 1958. They enjoyed 49 years of a loving marriage and many sailing adventures.
She gave her life to the Lord at a young age and never stopped living for Him. She understood Jesus’s command in Matthew 28:18-20, and was determined to make heaven crowded, whether through leading Bible studies or in conversation at the grocery store.
She was a beautiful example of a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother, loyal friend, and fierce prayer warrior. She loved her country and the principles on which it was founded. She was a pro-life advocate, as she and Lewis had adopted their daughter Laura.
She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in the hearts of her family. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Mossman, and her husband, Robert Mossman. She was lovingly known as “Nana” to Ryan (Dakotah), Claire, and Ava Mossman, and to her soon-to-be grandson-in-law, Daniel Scott. She was also cherished as “Great Nana” by Shepherd and Forrest Mossman. She is additionally remembered by her brother-in-law, Jim Nelson, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
