

Ofelia Fernandez Patlan of Houston, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 17th, 2020 after a sudden illness. She was born in Galveston, Texas on April 11th, 1932 and had just celebrated her 88th birthday.
Ofelia was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a devoted and faithful Christian woman. Her family and her church meant everything to Ofelia. For decades, she was an active member of First United Methodist Church of La Marque, and then Westbury United Methodist Church in Houston. She participated in many ministries of the church - from teaching children in Sunday school to various community ministries, and she loved singing in the choir. In addition to raising five children, Ofelia loved having a career and worked for Monsanto Chemical, Mainland Medical Center, and even sold encyclopedias for a short time as well. She was an avid and energetic volunteer, always giving back to the world. She volunteered for Hospice, CASA, Braes Interfaith Ministries, and many other church and civic related events during her life. She always saw the best in everyone, and she touched countless lives.
She was preceded in death by her father Abel Fernandez, her mother Maria Fernandez, as well as several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Patlan Sr., and her children John Patlan Jr., (Elsa), Steve Patlan, Mark Patlan (Linda), Henry Patlan (Shushanik), and Linda Marie Patlan (Eric); as well as grandchildren Sarah, Sean, Madison, Chandler, Samantha, Evan, and Hovannes. She is also survived by her sisters Amelia Galvan and Francisca “Jane” Hinojosa; and countless members of her church family.
