My condolences to the Thornton family. My name is Lee Walker a former co-worker of Mr Thornton I  met Mr.Thornton after joining the boilermaker's union he was one of the nicest people I'd had the privilege to meet.
He was  always willing to share his knowledge and experience to help others. He was highly respected by his peers.  Mr Thornton was a great role model for the younger generation Thank you Sir May you rest in Heavenly peace 👏🏾

Rodney at Lyndsy’s first birthday. He was at all our children’s birthdays and all their events. 



At 90, we had the good fortune  of taking him to one last driving range. Only it was at Top Golf. He didn’t hit many times, rather he helped the girls hit their first golf balls.
When he did hit the ball, he obviously still had it.
I’m going to miss those days of playing 9 or 18 with Rodney
Him telling me, “Keep your head down son.”

I met Rodney about two years before he started dating my mom Patsy.  He was at our apartment when my bike was stolen and he helped us scour the neighborhood to try and find it. That’s when I got my first glimpse of the caring and thoughtful guy he was. He started dating my mom about the same time I started dating my now husband. I got engaged and they got married. I remember being so happy that she found Rodney and I wouldn’t be leaving her alone. He  put a penny in my shoe for good luck on my wedding day. It worked! My mom told me it was Rodney that shed a tear when I moved out. She didn’t cry at all. He was there when all three of my babies were born. Rodney seemed to have boundless energy. Whether he  was playing tennis, golfing, or of course dancing he was always on the move.   He and my mom even liked video games, sometimes staying up all night playing Fire and Ice. He loved music and I will miss seeing him snapping his fingers or clapping his hands to the music. Rodney was a great husband to my mom and a great stepdad to me. My mom was married to him for thirty one years before he lost her. He took such good care of her up until her last moment. I will miss him forever but take comfort in knowing that they are once again together. I will forever be his “Baby Girl”.

  I met Rodney when I was sixteen, and just started dating Kim. He and Patsy started dating at that same time, so we were around each other a lot.  
  We had plenty of good times, eating fajitas at Don Bravo's and fish at Captain D's.
 He never failed to amaze me, talking motors, his race boats, and stories of barefoot skiing. Then came 2013, Kim and I were visiting them with the children, and Rodney tells me he did the application we had talked about a few months before, I thought he was kidding, but he wasn't. He was one of the 80,000 applicants that were vying to be one of the first 1,000 to colonize Mars. Patsy overheard us and asked him, "So you are going to just leave me here to go to Mars?" Rodney in his pleasant way replied, " You can go to."
 I believe had he been selected he would have loved every minute of his journey.  That was Rodney, someone who made the most of his time, regardless of what he was doing.
 I am truly going to miss him, and that can do attitude he always had.

Thank you for all you did for us and go see what’s out in that great beyond you always wanted to see.

I met Rodney when Patsy and I discovered we were sisters. He treated me like family immediately.   Such a caring person. Glad to have known him!!!
