How does one even begin to describe Roger’s life in so few words? Perhaps with the most important thing first -- his greatest love -- his wife, Irma, to whom he was wed for 34 years. Their passion, dignity and mutual love for each other was obvious throughout their lives together and was made even more evident
as they dealt with Roger’s illness over the last 12 months. Each put the other first in all things and at all times. To the very last minute, Roger’s concern and focus was on his beloved wife.
He was an incredible and supportive father to his two children, Angela and Alan, and was their “go-to” for just about anything at any time. He was there when troubles arose and never disappointed or denied them anything, especially his unconditional love. He was often found mastering car repairs, repairing
household items, aiding in remodeling projects, giving unbiased advice, or babysitting his adored grandchildren.
But, his grandchildren – oh, those lucky grandchildren – they were his heart. PeePaw (and Mima) never missed an event. From the time their grandkids could walk, they made all sporting events, even if all they may have seen was a grandchild or two picking flowers in the outfield. They went to countless grandparent days, band concerts, marching contests, basketball games, football games, softball games and baseball games. In recent years, he and Irma were found every Friday night alternating between watching Tucker or Spencer play football with the Dawson High School Football Team or Blake playing drums in the Friendswood High School Marching Band. Their Tuesdays and Thursdays were the highlight of their week and known to the family as their “Bella days” where the main decision of the afternoon was – Menchies or Dairy Queen? On other days, you would often find them watching Bailey, a.k.a. “PeePaw’s princess”, on the dance floor at her dance rehearsals, competitions, recitals and ballets – nothing touched PeePaw quite like watching her express herself through Dance. He truly shared everything with his family - Halloweens, July 4th parades, Thanksgivings, the annual “Christmas Train” tradition, sweet Christmas mornings, and just last week, one of many special Christmas Eves with their children and grandchildren. He was a man who worked with his hands, but led with his heart. He could make anything, rebuild a vehicle, pilot an airplane, yet dance like a professional – he particularly loved Country Western and Tejano dancing. He loved Corvettes, model airplanes and above all, riding his immaculately kept Harley Davidson alongside his wife, Irma, through the winding roads, hills and mountains of this country.
