Roy Frank Hans was born April 22, 1944 to Mr. Lee Roy Hans and Mrs. Lula Mae Gipson, the first of three sons (only child of this union). He grew up in Galveston, Texas where he attended Ball High School.
At the age of 20, he enlisted into the United States Navy where he served 4 years as a medic. He was honorably discharged due to injuries sustained during his tour of duty in the Vietnam War. While serving in the military he married and resided in California and had two sons, Dwayne and Demetrius. After returning to Galveston, Texas, he met and married Brenda Jean Griffin and had two daughters.
Forever the scholar, he attended the University of Houston where he obtained both a Bachelors and Masters Degree. He pursued a number of career paths, but eventually retired from the Harris County Psychiatric Center in 2009. Though he retired from the psychiatric center, his untapped talent was that of a comedian and story-teller for all that knew him. Aside from being an entertainer, his other passions included food, movies, music, reading, traveling and his church (Second Baptist~ Dr Ed Young).
In 1998, he met and fell in love with Shirlene Alveranga who became his companion, friend and confidante for over fourteen years. He became a mentor and father figure to her three children Jeffery, Kevin and Katelynne. They shared many good times and a lifetime of memories.
His pride and joy included his daughters Ricci and Devin, whom he loved dearly. The father-daughter bond among them was beyond words. Simply stated, it was filled with adventure, fun, and most of all LOVE. He was so very proud of his grandson Collin and would often state, “That’s my boy!”
Cherishing his memories are his children; Ricci Hans-Stephenson (Darryl), Devin Harvey (Rodney), Dwayne Hans, Demetrius Hans; Fiancé, Shirlene Alveranga; Shirlene’s children, Jeffery, Kevin and Katelynne. Brothers; Donald Hans and Cecil Wesley Ryan. He also leaves a grandchild; Collin Stephenson.
