

Ruben Clifford Jordan, 58, of Tyler, Texas passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2017. He was born on July 3, 1959 in Athens, Texas to the late Rev. Bennie C. Jordan, Sr. and the late Ora Timmons. He joined Mt. Providence Baptist Church in Athens, Texas at an early age.
A Class of 1977 graduate of John Tyler High School, Ruben excelled as a member of the football team, earning himself a full athletic scholarship to both Tyler Junior College and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Sociology.
He started his coaching and teaching career at Hardin Jefferson ISD in 1982 where his greatness began to flourish. A few years later, Ruben joined Clear Creek ISD as an assistant football coach and head track coach where he spent the next 28 years mentoring student athletes. His athletes went on to countless successes over the years. Having recently retired in the summer of 2016, Coach Jordan was also the proud owner of Friendswood Driving School.
Coach Jordan will be remembered as a ‘gentle giant’ that touched thousands of student’s lives throughout his career at Clear Creek High School. Known as a calming presence around campus, Coach Jordan engaged students in creative ways to reach them and leave a positive impact. At home he was a loving father that would do anything for his children but expected excellence in return. He was also a loving playful grandfather. If you were fortunate enough to know him, he didn’t have to utter a word to make an impact on you; he could give a look better than any other person on the planet.
Ruben is survived by two children, his son Roger Lee Jordan and daughter Lindsey Marie Jordan Gay, MD and her husband Brandon; two grandchildren Samaya Jordan and Braylon Gay; brothers Jerry (Theresa) Timmons, Bennie C. (Toni) Jordan Jr., and Oscar D. Jordan; a sister Sylvia Jordan Key; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family, friends, and students.
