

Mr. Rufino Sanchez Jr., age 76, of Pearland, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Rufino was born January 9, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas and is preceded in death by his parents Rufino and Anita Sanchez. Rufino attended Roy Miller High School and soon thereafter joined the Marine Corps. Rufino was a letter carrier and retired from the US Postal Service in June, 2009. Rufino is survived by his loving wife, Carmen Sanchez of 44 years, his daughter, Sally Kristoff (Bobby) and his sons Cesar Gutierrez and Rufino Sanchez, III (Kimberly) as well as his nine grandchildren, Alyssa, Michelle, Luke, Radyn, Anthony, Isabella, Aliya, Dylan and Ryder. Rufino is also, survived by his brother, Regino Sanchez (Lillie), sister, Esperanza Morin (Aurelio), nieces Sandra Bertrand, Cathy Villafuerte, Melissa Molina and nephews Gino Sanchez, Richard Sanchez and Robert Sanchez.
Rufino served during the Vietnam War in the area of Chu Lai as Cpl. and was first assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines of the 3rd Division (3/3's). He participated in Operations Starlite, Piranha, Rice Straw and Golden Fleece. Rufino was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in the defense of DaNang, Vietnam on December 24, 1965 at which time he was with Co. C, 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, 3rd Marine Division. He held the core values of the Marine Corps - Honor, Courage and Commitment. Rufino was very proud to be a marine and lived by the motto Semper Fidelis (always faithful/always loyal) both on the battlefield as well as in his personal life. His great pride of serving his country was only matched by his love of God and family. Rufino was a devoted husband and strong patriarch of his family who led by example and was truly the best father. He was also the most loving PeePaw who took care of all of his grandchildren with kindness, wisdom and unconditional love. A true man of God, whose faithfulness, strength and support never wavered. He will be loved forever and missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 6-8pm at Forest Park East Funeral Home & Cemetary, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598.
A Catholic mass will be recited on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11am at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church, 11011 Hall Road, Houston, Texas 77089.
