Sally Bryant

Born 6th of September, 1927 in Mercedes, TX. Sally received her G.E.D. in her late teens and scored the highest at the time of any candidate, at 99.9 %. She received her private pilot license in her early twenties. She played in an all-women’s band where she played the fiddle, and guitar. She went on to teach country artist like Don Williams and others how to play the guitar.

Sally was married at twenty-two years of age and over eighteen years of marriage had three children. She went on to work at Gulf Oil Corporation located in downtown Houston for five years in the early sixties as a keypunch operator on some of the first computers made. During this time she learned and acquired business operation skills. After Gulf Oil she was able to work from her home with a company founded by her Sister and Brother in law. She managed the office and was a bookkeeper for this family business for thirty-seven years. This career allowed her to be at home with her three children and still work to provide for the family.

Sally loved music, and made it part of her daily life. She played the guitar, piano, harmonica and taught her children how to read music, and play a variety of musical instruments. She loved good food, playing dominos, and card games –especially the game of 42, and Bridge respectively. She would get so tickled at exaggerated, animated depictions of animals and people, and loved the humor of Dave Berry. And especially loved going on long drives to see the countryside of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado.

She is survived by her children, Olivia Anne Bryant, Robert Lee Bryant, and Stacie Jo Bryant all of Houston TX. Her sister, Jonel Stanton of Houston, her brothers Oraen Riley of Houston, Drexel Riley of Rockport, TX, and Luther Riley of Medford, Oregon. And, her two grandchildren Oran Henry Hanson, Houston, TX and Noel Bryant Hanson of Luling, TX.

Funeral service will be held at the Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery, Webster, Texas at 3:00pm Tuesday, March 18th, 2014.
