He had a career in maritime as a ship Captain. He retired from the United States Coast Guard, was a member of the United States Merchant Marines and had a passion for photography.
He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel Irene Miley and father Fred Wooten, sister Peggy Estelle Wooten, sister Olive Lee Wooten and brother John Peter Wooten.
He is survived by wife Georgie Ann Wooten, stepson Thomas James Collier. He is also survived by his Son James Ray Wooten, his Daughter Sarah Lynn Wooten and grandchildren.
