Shirley passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday evening after a brave battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Perry Seale Sr.; brother, Clarence Perry “Bubba” Seale, Jr.; and son Kenneth Avery Maxey.
She is survived by her mother Mary Margaret Crow; husband of 54 years, Robert Maxey; daughter Peggy Tomme (and Jane Roller), Sherry Douglas (and Larry Douglas); grandchildren Leslie Frazier (and Dusty Frazier), Kyle Roller; great-grandson, Cor Frazier; sisters Mary Ellen Reagan, Nancy Mankin 9and Dave Mankin0; sister-in-law Faye Seale; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Max and Betty Bennett; extended family members, and friends.
Born and raised in Galveston, TX, Shirley graduated from Dominican High School in 1954. She attended Metropolitan Business College, and had a successful business career, retiring from GMAC after 28 years of service as a sales supervisor.
Shirley and her husband were active members of the Tomball Area Shriner’s Club. Additionally, she was very active as a victims’ rights advocate and served on the TDCJ Victims Assistance Advisory Council in Austin, TX.
Shirley’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, and needlework. This interest prompted her to open “Shirley’s Stitches” on Strand Street in Galveston.
As a loving grandmother, Shirley devoted her time for the support and development of her grandchildren including teaching CCE classes at St. Ignacious Loyola Catholic Church in Spring, TX, tutoring students at Reynolds Elementary in Spring ISD; and, assisting with Cub Scout Pack 900 and BSA Troop 1659 (Spring , TX). As an accomplished pianist and organist, Shirley shared her passion for music by supporting the band programs at Beau Branch Jr. High and Magnolia High School in Magnolia ISD.
Her endless acts of kindness, generous nature, and concern for others were wide spread throughout all aspects of her life and touched all those who knew her. As a passionate supporter of the performing arts in public schools, Shirley provided opportunities for deserving students to receive band instruments or music lessons in Magnolia ISD.
