

On the evening of July 17, 2016, Tom passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. Tom was born in Columbus, Ohio to Chardelle Hamilton Dotter and Richard Dotter on November 27, 1946. He was the fourth of five children. Tom and family moved to Tupelo, Mississippi at a young age where he enjoyed a childhood full of fun and laughter with his brothers and sister. He served aboard an aircraft carrier for the US Navy from 1970 to 1973 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1974 and was a lifelong sports fan in both good years and bad. Tom was a CPA at various universities where he made many lifelong friends. He married Michelle Pretti on April 14, 1979 in Memphis, Tennessee. Together they enjoyed their weekly co-ed softball league, playing golf, skiing in Lake Tahoe, and their annual trip to Destin with family and friends.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. He was loved by many and known for his booming laugh, quick wit and occasional sharp tongue. He cherished his children, children in-law and grandchildren, who know him simply as “G”. Tom was a man of faith, committed to his spiritual growth and forever thankful for a life of love, family, friends and travel.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Michelle, his children Meredith Morriss (Nick) and Richard Dotter (Lauren), his three grandchildren Finley, Kirby and Shepherd Morriss, his siblings, David Dotter (Judy), Carole Weaks, Dick Dotter (Nikki), Dan Dotter, his mother-in-law, June Pretti, his sister-in-law, Loreleigh Webb (Jerry), and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park East Funeral Home, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, TX 77598. A funeral mass will be held Friday, July 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real , Houston, TX 77062 with interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mississippi State School of Business Scholarship Fund, UHCL Dotter Family Scholarship Fund, or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
