

Our dear mother, Zelma Hargrove Carr, sadly passed away on February 17, 2024 at the age of 95 surrounded by loved ones. She was born to the late John Adam Hargrove and Nettie Beatrice (Davenport) Hargrove on December 2, 1928 in Bristol, Connecticut.
She spent her early years in Connecticut where she worked and retired from the Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut. In 1978 she moved to Friendswood, Texas where she was employed at Houston International Hospital (HIH) in Houston, Texas. During her time there, she pursued an education in nursing at the College of the Mainland in Texas City, Texas, completing the nursing program and meeting the requirements outlined by the State of Texas for licensing as a Registered Nurse. She continued in the field of psychiatric nursing at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) and Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health retiring from UTMB.
Zelma was a champion in the game of bridge, participating in tournaments around the country. She joined Bibleway Baptist Church when she first moved to Texas and spoke often of her love for her church. Zelma loved her family, spending time with them as much as possible. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. She has five surviving children: Philip Gregory Carr, Bristol, CT, Delia (Robert) Parham, Opelika, AL, Beatrice (George) Allen, Opelika, AL, Rita Goudeau, Friendswood, TX, Gladys Carr, Friendswood, TX, ten grandchildren: Tina Carr, Friendswood, TX, Albert J. Smith, Bristol, CT, Phoebe Carr, Bristol, CT, Tricia Carr, Bristol, CT, Traci (Herick) Prenat, lowa Colony, TX, Kenneth (Christina) Allen, Pearland, TX, Cornelius (Candace) Allen, Opelika, AL, Tony (Treameaka) Allen, Kymanii Lynette Hall, Houston, TX, Martina J. Goudeau, Friendswood, TX and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Zelma will be held Monday, February 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at ONEMOVEMENT BIBLE CHURCH, located at 10120 Hartsook Street in Houston, Texas.
