
Born on October 15, 1929 in Norwood, Massachusetts, she was the oldest child to William A. Broadley, Sr. and Julia Broadley of East Walpole, Massachusetts. She graduated from Walpole High School in 1947 and Vesper George School of Art, Boston in 1950. She also attended the Henry Hensche School of Art in the summer of 1950 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. During her years in Provincetown, Mrs. Black, became a well-known visual artist whose works were in many mediums, such as oils, acrylics, collage, printing, and sculpture. She showed her art in different galleries in Provincetown as well as New York City, and was a long-time member of the Provincetown Art Association, also known as PAAM. Mrs. Black also was a writer and self-publisher or various books of poetry.
Mrs. Black was the wife of the late Carl B. Black, older sister of the late Prudence Barry, and the late William A. Broadley, Jr. She leaves behind three children, Melanie Black of Provincetown, Massachusetts, Laura Simmons of Euclid, Ohio, and Carl David Black of Snow Hill, Maryland.
Mrs. Black was involved in local politics and served on various committees which involved the betterment of the local community, such as the Recycling Committee, which created a recycling program for the town, which is still going today.
Mrs. Black was a member of the Baha’i Faith and joined in the early 1950s after she met Juliette Thompson, who was also an early member of the Faith.
Connie Black, as she was known to her many friends and family members, was a good, gentle woman of great character. She was an example to many who met her over her long life, a renaissance woman, and a strong matriarch. She will be sorely missed.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Provincetown Cemetery on Alden Street, Provincetown. Refreshments and remembrances will follow the service at her residence, at 6 Priscilla Alden Road, Provincetown.
