

.David S. Horton, 78, of North Truro and Naples, FL died on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Cape Cod Hospital. He was born in Boston on October 28, 1943. He was a 1961 graduate of Provincetown High School and also a graduate of Fitchburg State College. For many years he was a teacher of special needs children in the Fitchburg Public Schools. He owned and operated Horton’s Trucking and Rubbish Removal in North Truro.
David was a Master Mason in the Fraternal Order of Freemasons, belonging to King Hiram’s Lodge in Provincetown. He was a Shriner, belonging to Araba Shine Temple in Fort Meyers, Florida. David was also past president of the Marco Island, Florida Shrine Club. David was a very proud veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW, both in Provincetown.
Growing up in the shadow of Highland Light, he developed a great love for Truro’s history. He was well known for his knowledge and stories of the lighthouse. He shared this lore with many over the years while he worked at Highland Light and Highland Light Museum. In 2016 he was honored as a Truro Living Legacy by the Truro Historical Society.
David is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathy, his son Kenneth Horton (Maggie Akers) of Brewster and his daughter Amy (Bill) Redihan of Orleans. He was the very proud Bumpa of his grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney Redihan of Orleans. He was predeceased by his parents, Sumner and Mary (Molly) Horton and his brother, Robert Horton.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of David’s life on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:30 A.M. at the Christian Union Church in North Truro. Burial will be private.
