John DeMatteis

John DeMatteis, 77, born 11/22/1948. A man who wore many hats and known to many by different names: “Johnny in the window,” “Johnny on the stoop,” Johnny Cologne, Mafia John, Harbor Master John, but most importantly, Dad and Papa. Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, John spent many years visiting Provincetown with his family until finally taking up permanent residency in 2001 with his beloved wife, Kathi (d. 2002).

He made Provincetown his home and was a proud resident, becoming a lively fixture of the town’s landscape and community. John sadly passed on Sunday, May 3rd, 2026 at 9:20PM. He was a strong, loving protector of his children, grandchildren, community, and country (United States Navy, Vietnam Veteran). He is survived by his son, Christian, daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law John, and grandchildren: Isabelle, Ian, Gaven, and Leah. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, as well as a multitude of friends who became family over the years.

Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Church, on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 10AM., followed by a Committal Service at St. Peter the Apostle Cemetery, Alden Street, Provincetown, MA 02659, US, on May 9, 2026.
