Kevin was born and raised in Leominster, Massachusetts, son of John and Rita Magane who were both teachers in the Leominster schools. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a teaching certificate from Umass Amherst. After college Kevin spent some time in Washington, D.C., serving as a Metropolitan Police officer and then as a sky marshal. In the early 70s he answered an ad for a summer policeman position in Truro and ended up staying after his stint was up. He spent a year as a reading specialist at the Truro Central School and then worked in several hotels before deciding to go into business for himself building houses.
Kevin married Martha Rodgers in 1985 and they built a life together in Truro. Kevin was a very independent person and enjoyed the freedom that self employment allowed. He and his wife enjoyed travel and he especially liked to plan itineraries and sample the beers of the world. For many years Kevin and his wife would spend a couple of January weeks in Jamaica. He loved to swim, was passionate about national politics and sports, and always kept a close eye on the weather.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 40 years, Martha, his three siblings, Karen Leighs, Kati Olson, and John Magane, nephews Mike Leighs and Ben Olson, and neices Maggie Olson, Stephanie Pessalano, Dana DiBerto, and Kara Magane.
A celebration of Kevin’s life is planned for sometime in the fall. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to CurePSP.org.
