Bertley Loretta Osborne, beloved mother to Jason Osborne, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, after a brief illness. Her final moments were spent in the comfort of her home in Scarborough, surrounded by her devoted son, Jason and other close family members - just as she lived her life, grounded in love, connection and peace.
Born on May 21, 1941, in Georgetown, Guyana, she attended Tutorial High School before pursuing her nursing studies in England in 1960 and later continuing her training in Canada. She went on to have a long and dedicated career as a Registered Nurse, where her compassion, professionalism and care for others left a lasting impact on both colleagues and patients alike.
Known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and genuine warmth toward everyone she encountered, Bertley was a natural peacemaker, someone who brought calm, understanding and unity wherever she went. Her life was a reflection of grace and quiet strength, and even in her passing, she carried that same sense of peace. A devoted reader of the Daily Word, her faith and daily reflections were a source of comfort and guidance that she carried with her and shared with others. Her commitment to her church community, where she worshipped for over 40 years, was a meaningful expression of her faith. Her family asks that she be remembered not for the sadness of her passing, but for the joy, comfort and love she so freely gave throughout her life.
Bertley is lovingly survived by her son, Jason Osborne, who cared for her in her final months and with whom she shared an unbreakable bond defined by deep love, devotion, and unwavering support. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her sisters Meghan Forde, Jacqueline Bryan, Patsy Scott and Merlyn Osborne.
She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families: Marlon Bruce, Fennella Muir, Rhonda Britton, Leslyn Ferguson, La Toya Knights Thurman, Natalie Scott-Chin, Dewayne Christopher, Jonelle Bryan, Kalia Osborne, Tekisha Osborne and Sharissa Osborne.
Her legacy continues through her great-nieces and great-nephews: Myana Bruce-McKinney, Jaya Scott, Mikai Bruce-McKinney, Javen Honigan, Noah Ferguson, Jaida Ferguson, Christian Snell, Michael Bruce and Alyssa Britton.
She will also be treasured in the hearts of her extended family and a wide circle of dear friends whose lives were deeply touched by her presence.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Gwendoline Osborne, father, George Osborne and brothers, Charles Osborne and George Osborne, Jr.
As the cherished matriarch of the family, she celebrated and documented every milestone from graduations to weddings to new babies and especially birthdays. Whether through heartfelt songs or photo albums, she made each moment feel special and preserved memories that will be treasured for generations.
Her thoughtfulness, her love for The Young and the Restless, and the effortless way she touched others with her warm smile and gentle, reassuring presence will always remain in our hearts and memories.
A viewing will be held at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home on Thursday, April 9, 2026, where family and friends are welcome to gather from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additionally a final viewing will be held at St. Margaret-in-the-Pines at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, followed immediately by a funeral service celebrating her life.
Flowers and memorial gifts are appreciated but not necessary. May she rest peacefully and forever remain in our hearts.
