Elena Planka

Elena Planka is my mother. Mama, you started your journey on Earth in Poland in what is now Ukraine in 1933, grew up in Brazil, had your first son Sergio when you returned to what was then The Soviet Union, went back to Brazil, and completed it in Canada. You met your husband Jerry, my father, here and had your second son John. Tragically you lost your Jerry and Sergio in separate accidents in 1977.

You focused on raising John, all you had. You were all I had, too. I thank you for being there for me, and teaching me so much. I thank God for giving me such a great mother. You didn't have an easy life, but never gave up. Now you can have peace and eternal bliss with my brother, father, grandfather, uncle and others who have returned to God.

All are welcome to gather at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, 4115 Lawrence Avenue East, West Hill on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1490 Markham Rd, Scarborough, on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.

Private arrangements have been made for Elena’s eternal rest.
