June 10, 1939 - February 19, 2022
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of the world’s greatest
Dad & Papou, Emmanouil “Mike” Athanasopoulos. Surrounded by his daughters and their children, Mike passed away at Ajax-Pickering Hospital. Mike was born in Kouvela, Greece on June 10, 1939, despite what documents say! Mike came to Canada in 1967, where he met his then wife Mary Christodoulopoulos. They went on to have four children together. Mike is survived by his beloved daughters, Litsa (Peter), and Marina (Alvin Sr). Will be missed by his sons Gus (Angie), and Dennis (Jennifer). He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Chloe, Alexander, Isabella, Lily, Alvin Jr, Violet, Niko, Alex, Dina, Georgia, Emmanuel, Amelia, and Elliot. Mike was a very hard-working, single father who raised four children on his own. His commitment to his family was unwavering, and his unconditional love, affection, and attention for his family, and friends will truly be missed. It was in 1998 when Mike was promoted to Papou with the birth of his first grandchild. Papou made his grandchildren the centre of his universe, and anyone who knew him knew that becoming Papou was undoubtedly his greatest pride. Papou enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as reading his morning newspaper with his Tim Hortons coffee, tending to his tomatoes under the afternoon sun, and drinking wine straight from the bottle while making dinner with Marina. Papou lived a healthy, active lifestyle, and often enjoyed long walks, going to the gym, and swimming. Over the years, Papou has instilled in us the importance of taking care of your mind, and body in order to live your best life. Papou will be immensely missed, and we are forever grateful, and truly blessed to have had him for the time that we did.
We know you’re watching over us with your cats on the moon.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.giffenmackscarborough.com for the Athanasopoulos family.
