June 9, 1934 – October 31, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Gerald Stephen Lansky, a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. Jerry died peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and quiet strength.
A graduate of the University of Toronto Medical School, with a post graduate surgery specialty, Jerry built a respected surgical practice in Waterloo, where he served his community for decades. Known for his exceptional skill, unwavering care for his patients, and dry sense of humour, he was both admired and beloved by colleagues and those he treated.
Jerry held numerous leadership roles throughout his medical career, reflecting his commitment to excellence and service:
• President, Medical Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital (1971–1972)
• President, K-W Academy of Medicine (1971–1972)
• Chief of Surgery, K-W Hospital (1972–1977)
• President, Southwestern Surgical Society (1982–1983)
• Medical Director of Surgical Programs, Grand River Hospital (1998)
He was a proud member of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), and was honored as a lifetime Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
Outside of medicine, Jerry’s love for the outdoors was matched only by his love for his family. He was an avid skier, cherishing time on the slopes with his family in Ellicottville and with close friends in Vail. He found joy and camaraderie on the golf course at Westmount Golf and Country Club, where he was a member for over 50 years. Jerry also took great pride in his membership in the Forest Hill Wine Club, where he shared his appreciation for fine vintages and good conversation.
He was predeceased by his cherished wife of 54 years, Carol, whom he met and began dating in high school, his brother Ted, and his parents Bozena and Stefan, who emigrated from Czechoslovakia to build a new life in Canada.
He is survived by his children Andrea (Tim), Paula (Graham), and Jonathan (Marifel), and by his grandchildren Kayley, Sean, Owen, Amelia, and Jesse—each of whom knew how lucky they were to call him Grandpa and Papa.
Jerry’s life was marked by quiet generosity, deep integrity, and a steadfast devotion to those he loved. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will take place at Westmount Golf and Country Club on Saturday, November 15th from 1–3 p.m.
A heartfelt thank-you to the incredible caregivers on 3 West at Craiglee Long Term Care, and to the doctors, nurses, and personal support workers in the palliative care unit at Scarborough General Hospital. Your compassion and dedication brought comfort and dignity to Jerry’s final days, and our family is deeply grateful.
In honouring Jerry’s life, we carry forward his values of kindness, integrity, and devotion to family. May his memory continue to guide and inspire all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada in Jerry’s memory.
