Josie was born on July 7, 1928, in Usseglio, Italy, a municipality of the City of Turin (Torino). She was the oldest of three children born to Pietro and Regina Aires (nee Milani). Josie grew up in the Piedmont region, near the French border, and survived the hardships of the Great Depression and World War II. After meeting her husband Paolo Bianco, she moved to Milan and spent many years there before moving to Canada. In 1970, Josie moved to Toronto with Paolo and their daughter Marina in search of greater opportunities for her family. They first lived in Crescent Town before Josie settled into her Scarborough home where she spent the last 35 years of her life.
Josie is predeceased by her husband Paolo (1988) and her beloved daughter Marina (1993). She is also predeceased by her parents Pietro and Regina, and her younger brothers Franco and Bruno. She is survived by her son-in-law William Yee and her granddaughter Elizabeth Yee (Duncan).
Josie will be remembered for her strong personality and independent spirit. In her younger years she was known for her hospitality: she would often make delicious baked goods to share with her family and friends, like banana bread, zucchini bread, or her famous deviled eggs. She would make homemade treats for gatherings of the extended Yee family, where she was known as “Grandma Josie”. She cared about her family above all else and demonstrated this care and devotion in every decision she made.
