It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hideko Davis on Thursday, March 25, 2021 after a hard fought battle with a month-long illness. Beloved wife of Kenneth for 50 years, Hideko left behind a loving family including her children Philip, Edward, Victoria and her daughter-in-law Sarah. She was well-loved in every space that she was a part of, especially her workplace of 40 years, Manulife. This was where some of her fondest memories were held. She was especially proud of her kids joining in her "legacy" as employees of the same company. She was an inspiration to us all to never give up. From her early years in post-WWII Okinawa, to her challenges of immigrating to Canada with only a few hundred dollars, and almost no English, in the late 1960's, until this last battle. She was the example of what perseverance through the challenges meant. Some of her passions and interests included cooking, and taking cooking classes at George Brown; and the family trips to Niagara Falls and cottage country. She also made regular trips back home to Okinawa to reconnect with friends and family in the last 10 years. The family wishes to greatly thank everyone who knew and befriended Hideko over the years. It is because of you that she felt loved in all aspects of her life.

The memorial service to celebrate the life of Hideko will be online on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 at 10:00am.

Memorial donations may be made to Scarborough Food Security Initiative - https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/m/58513/donation or Scarborough Health Network Foundation - https://shnfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/.

Dear Victoria and family,
Your mom was a devoted mother who always wanted the best for her children.
As a child she welcomed me into her home and was always kind to me. Whenever I saw her she was always smiling, and whenever we spoke she always made sure to ask how everyone was doing. The world has lost a wonderful, strong women.
My sincerest condolences,

Hideko was one of my first co-workers when I joined the area in 1993. She was so patient and happy to help me understand our business. And when I made mistakes and caused her extra work, she would never scold me but would sit down on my extra chair, giggle and then explain what I could do better next time. Hideko was an expert and I relied on her heavily in those first few years. But in addition to her expertise, she was simply a joy to work with. Always had a smile, cared deeply for those around her, and had the best sense of humour. She had the best laugh and was such a good team player, making sure we all enjoyed the work place as much as she did. In recent years when I would run into her, she would always greet me with a hug and a smile. And would share with me how proud of her kids she was. I will miss seeing her beautiful smile at the next QCC. But will be sure to raise my glass in memory. Cheers Hideko - you will be missed.

Although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you I know you must've been an amazing gift to the world. Your daughter Victoria is strong, kind and beautiful inside and out and only a woman similar can raise a daughter to be those things. My sincere condolences to the family.

My dear sister Hideko,

Can’t believe it’s been 20 years already since we’ve crossed our path and shared our times together. We couldn’t meet often but when we met we had laughters and had good times. For someone like me who never had a sister, you became that caring older sister to me with a warm heart. I am also forever grateful and thankful for you being a good mother to my daughter, Sarah. One said, not only flowers have lovely scents, but also those scents exists around human ties. And to me you carried those special scents with you always. I am saying good bye to you today, remembering and keeping all the happy memories we created together in my heart. Until we meet again, rest in peace my sister. I pray for peace and happiness wherever you are...

Sister Vivienne ♥
