John Gordon McVicar

Passed peacefully with his wife Lillian Margaret Cosgrove by his side. Devoted husband to the late Winnifred Joyce McVicar. Predeceased by his parents Hazel and Dr. Gordon McVicar and his daughter Leslie Ellen McVicar. Brother to the late David Smith McVicar, his sister Gladys McVicar Finan and her spouse Thomas Finan. Brother-in-law to the late William Griffiths. Beloved father of Denise (Richard Morrison), Steven (Amber) . Grandfather “Poppa” to Andrew John and Leslie Joyce Morrison. Dear brother to Joan Griffiths. Brother-in-law to Maureen McVicar. John will be deeply missed by nephews Scott, Mark and Kevin McVicar.

John had a terrific circle of friends, Joseph Daca and his wife Mary, Bruce and Margaret Ewing, Ernie Twinnie and his wife Marie.

John was a retired employee of The Toronto Star and The National Post. He had a great time golfing with his friends and enjoyed CFL and The Toronto Blue Jays. He was an avid reader and loved Jazz. Fishing and hunting were always part of John’s life. John had a deep sense of commitment, a gentleman who was calm and always had a warm smile.

The family wishes to thank all of John’s caregivers. In lieu of flowers donations to The Scarborough General Hospital would be appreciated.

In keeping with John’s wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of John’s life will take place August 11, 2013 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the West Hill Bar, 4637 Kingston Road.
