Marian trained to become a Registered Nurse at East General Hospital, graduating September 20, 1951. While working there, she attended Toronto Bible College and graduated April 29, 1954. She heard about an opportunity to be of service as a nurse at Dr. Graham's Homes orphanage & school in Kalimpong, India. She left for India at the end of 1954.
In 1955, she met Alexander Hay at the British Club; they began to date. After leaving India they wrote for 5 years until she returned via England. After contracting malaria a 2nd time, she left India with a private patient and returned to Canada to heal. After that she went to England to visit family then joined a group of nurses that took a bus from England to India. She then rekindled in person her relationship with Alexander at the end of 1960. Eventually Alexander asked Marian to marry him. Although she had already booked & paid for a passage to NZ by ship, she agreed to marry Alexander on December 3, 1962 in India. She gave birth to her first child, Marion, in Assam, and her second child, Alison, in Edinburgh. The family later moved to Canada & stayed with her parents at 70 Wiley Ave, and she attended Greenwood G.C. as a family, beginning in 1966.
After purchasing their home at 56 Maywood Park, she gave birth to her youngest child, Elizabeth, in Toronto. Spent her time in Toronto raising her girls until 1982, Marian returned to nursing at True Davidson Acres and retired at age 67. She enjoyed traveling with her husband into their early 80s. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, always generous with her time and love. She is survived by her daughters Marion (Terry) Fischer and Elizabeth (Kenny) Chambers, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Our mother, Marion Hay, lived a full and faithful life in honour of her God. She was a woman of great strength, humble, giving, and selflessness who touched every life she encountered. Marian left her earthly home peacefully straight into the arms of her Saviour while hearing the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant". We will all miss her greatly every single day.
