It is with heavy hearts in the announcing of the passing of Robert Thomas McLeod (“Bob”). He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, in his home on January 20, 2026, in his 86th year. He joins his parents Roy and Grace, siblings Marie, Charlotte and Geraldine; grandson Paul; and nephew Stephen.
Bob leaves behind his beloved wife Elsie (Pineo) of 58 years; children Jane (Henry), Keith (Paula) and Christine (Phil); grandchildren Joey (Serena), Melissa (Brad), Jaime, Derek, Ethan and Victoria; his beautiful great grandchildren, Aiden and Avery; siblings Delores and Wayne (Jenny); and his nephew Jason (Dana), who Bob constantly teased and adored. Bob will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, too many to name!
Bob was deeply devoted to his wife Elsie and their family. Bob sincerely loved his wife and was not afraid to say so or show it. He often said that he won the lottery when he married Elsie. Although the love was there, he did not fall short of teasing her. Bob came to Toronto from Nova Scotia as a teenager. His tenacity and strong work ethic was passed down to his children. Bob’s home was open and welcoming to any McLeod or Pineo (and many, many others) that came to visit or settle in Toronto. They all left feeling loved and part of the family.
Bob was born weighing just over a pound. From birth to his last days, he was strong and determined. This strength gave his family more time with him, which they are all grateful for. It was only his last days did he realize the battle was over.
Robert loved the outdoors. He often went for walks looking for deer. He and Elsie went on regular drives. He enjoyed his yearly hunting trips with his buddy Jim. He often joked that his entertainment was watching his grandsons play hockey every weekend. He will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to be the biggest kid in the room. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Special thanks to the palliative care team at Scarborough Health Network and his personal support workers, especially Sharon.
It was Bob’s wishes not to have a funeral. However, we cannot say goodbye without a Celebration of his Life with laughter and stories with the people who loved him. This will be held on Saturday January 31, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Fox Goes Free, 339 Kingston Road, Pickering, Ontario (drop in or stay).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Salvation Army.
Forever love, forever missed.
