

Roland Neville Walkes, was born on February 13, 1940 in Barbados, and passed away on April 17, 2022 in Scarborough at the age of 82. Roland is survived by his beloved wife Philada (nee Springer), his two children Stephen Walkes and spouse Allison Walkes and Stephanie Jackson and spouse James Jackson and his granddaughter Tamara Walkes. He leaves behind his sister Hyacinth Welch. Predeceased by his father Chesterfield Agard; his mother Una Walkes Agard; his brothers Byron Walkes and Luther Walkes; and Lamonte Walkes.
In the beautiful island of Barbados, Roland was a Sunday School Teacher. Roland then went on to work in Broadcasting at CBC in Toronto for 30 years, combining his work ethic with what he loved to do.
Roland had a passion for serving God, attending church, volunteering, and singing in the choir. He was a church Warden; Member of St. Dunstan’s/ St. Margaret’s in the Pines/ Grace Presbyterian Church Choir; Art Teacher at Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities; and a Volunteer for Vacation Bible School at Grace Presbyterian Church while also volunteering at Scarborough General Hospital.
Roland loved art, music, gardening, cooking, and watching sports on TV. Roland also volunteered as a Coach for West Rouge Soccer Club for many years.
Visitation for Roland will take place on Thursday, April 21 from 6-9 pm at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home, located at 4115 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, ON. Final goodbyes will take place on Friday, April 22 at 10 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11 am, located at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at St. Margaret’s Cemetery.
