Our beloved wife, mother and nonna passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on Monday, September 19, 2022 after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's Dementia. Rose was born in San Vito Sullo Ionio, Italy on May 21st, 1954. She was the beloved daughter of Giuseppe and Immacolata Gironda. Rose leaves behind her loving husband and soul mate of 42 years, Gordon. She will be forever missed by her children, Melanie and JP (Jennifer) and her beautiful granddaughter, Lia.
Rose’s life was devoted to the service of others. Being one of the eldest in her extended family, she cared for her (many) younger cousins and served as a translator and assistant for her aunts, uncles and her beautiful parents.
Rose found her calling as an educator, serving as teacher, coach, guidance counselor, mentor and friend to so many over the course of her long career. She was selflessly devoted to those in her care and treated each child like her own. Rose was also a cherished colleague and friend to many. Her vibrant personality (and incredible dance moves) could light up any room.
Her greatest service however, came in the love and care she shared with her family. Rose married the love of her life in 1980 and together they created a beautiful life for over forty two years. Gord was her greatest love and their marriage was an incredible adventure. Together they were an example of loyalty, perseverance and devotion to one another. She had two children, Melanie and JP that she dedicated her life to- she was their confidant, cheerleader, nurse, teacher, inspiration and someone who taught them unconditional love.
We are grateful for the wonderful care she received first from Norm, then Carmen and during her most trying years, our dear Lorna. Rose was blessed to have such dedicated, loyal and loving people looking after her when she was most in need. Her service to others came back ten fold in their service to her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 23rd from 3pm to 8pm at Giffen-Mack Funeral Home (4115 Lawrence Avenue East). Her funeral will take place on Saturday, September 24th at St. Joseph’s Highland Creek Catholic Church (200 Morrish Road) at 11 am with a burial to follow at Christ The King Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Toronto, www.alz.ca.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at: www.giffenmackscarborough.com for the MACLEAN family.
