Salman was born in Alexandria, Egypt on August 4, 1945. Predeceased by his parents Malik Ram and Vidya Vati, he was the youngest of five siblings, Usha (Varinder) (D), Aruna (Kailash)(D), Bushra (Avinash), and Aftab (D).
He had seven nieces and nephews, Bushra, Ajit, Jyoti, Rukma, Mehrunissa, Sameera and Vikram.
Salman lived a quiet life with dignity. Although he had some health challenges the last few years, he remained stoic and never complained. He had a voracious intellectual curiosity. He was a lifelong learner who never tired of expanding his knowledge of history, politics, religions of the world and the arts. He loved classical music and spent hours listening to concerts by famous composers.
His appetite for reading started at a very early age. Books were his best companions. He literally read everything he could get his hands on. So it was a tremendous loss to him when he could no longer read books due to his visual impairment. He later switched to audiobooks.
In keeping with his curiosity to learn, Salman loved to travel. He visited Mexico, Cuba, France, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Greece and traveled extensively throughout Canada and the USA. Every destination he visited was a new lesson in history, culture, language and culinary delights.
Salman arrived in Canada in 1970. He worked at the Province of Ontario for OHIP for his entire career. He will be missed by his family and friends.
