With heavy hearts we announce the passing of William (Bill) Ernest Butcher on September 2, 2025. Son of the late William an Isabella, Bill is predeceased by brother Duncan. Bill will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Elinore, his wife of 52 years, sons William Bruce (Nozomi) and Duncan, and grandchildren Maxwell, Liam and Kira, and sister Janet of Scotland.
Born in Scotland on April 13th, 1945, he came to Canada in 1967. Upon retirement from IBM, he enjoyed driving for the mentally challenged for many years, as well as traveling to see other parts of Canada and the world. He built many model ships in his spare time (continuing his love of ships after becoming a machinist at John Brown’s shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland) and, along with his wife, ran the Thursday Night Bridge at West Rouge Community Centre.
Family and friends are welcome to gather to celebrate Bill’s life at West Hill United Church, 62 Orchard Park Dr., Scarborough on Saturday, September 13th at 2:00 p.m.
For those who wish, donations in memory of Bill may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
The family would like to express their thanks to Rockcliffe Care Community for their excellent care of Bill during his time there.
