Born in Davenport, Florida on June 28th, 1937. Son of Ruby and Byron Thompson. Byron departed this earth on Monday, November 20th, 2023, at the age of 86.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Naval Reserve and the United States Army from 1955-1963.
Byron enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling, photography, camping, community involvement, and family outings and gatherings. He had a strong Christian faith and was an avid believer in God. He read the bible daily and shared his thoughts with Glenda. He was a graduate of Haines City High School and South Georgia College in Douglas, Georgia earning his Associate’s Degree. While at South Georgia College, he helped transport the football team, coached by Bobby Bowden, to their games and other events. He was very proud to have served in this capacity. On May 27, 2023, he had the privilege of going on Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials of the Armed Forces and be honored with the many other Veterans he traveled with that day. He spoke of this day often with anyone he met, as he was very proud of being able to go on Honor Flight.
His career started with Commercial Credit Corporation in Lakeland, Florida in 1963. He had a successful career working in banking and finance in West Palm Beach, Florida, for forty years and retired in 2003.
Byron is survived by his loving wife Glenda of sixty years, and their three children, Lisa Williams, Sherri Bagnall, and Byron Brant Thompson. He also leaves behind five grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister Mary Cromartie, and brother Garrett Thompson and several cousins.
He will be dearly missed by his family and all those that knew him. Byron always smiled as he loved life and would want everyone to live life in this way.
