

Catherine McBournie, born November 22, 1923, in East Boston, Massachusetts, to John Marini and Alice (Cancian) Marini, died peacefully on December 22, 2025, after a long life rooted in family, curiosity, and quiet strength.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John McBournie; her daughters, Nancy McBournie and Deborah McBournie Clarke; and her brothers, John Marini, Ralph Marini, and Richard Marini. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Rupp, and her devoted son, Gary McBournie, with whom she shared a close bond and many adventures.
Catherine was a proud and loving grandmother to William Bain, Jennifer Clarke, and Christopher Clarke, each of whom brought her great happiness. She is also survived by her son-in-law, William Richards, and his daughters, Hayley Richards and Paige Richards, whom she welcomed warmly into her life. In addition, she leaves behind many nephews and nieces, including Joanna Marini and Diane Marini, to whom she was especially close, and is survived by Robert Geary, whom she loved like another son.
A woman of remarkable dedication and intellect, Catherine worked for many years as an executive secretary at Wellesley College, a role she was deeply proud of. Later, she enjoyed working alongside her son at Gary McBournie Inc., and after moving to Florida, she continued her professional life at Mary Mahoney Palm Beach, retiring during the pandemic.
Catherine had a genuine love of travel and learning. She treasured summers on Nantucket and delighted in trips throughout Europe with family and friends. She followed politics, current events, and sports with enthusiasm, always engaged, informed, and ready for conversation. When asked about the secret to her long life, she would simply say it was moderation in all things.
Above all, Catherine will be remembered for her warmth, her loyalty, her keen mind, and the many friendships she nurtured over a lifetime. She leaves behind a wide circle of friends who will miss her dearly.
