Erik Joh

Erik was born on March 28th, 1945 to John and Alma Joh and lived with his family in Binghamton, New York. After graduating from Dartmouth, Erik attended Union University's Albany Law School, graduating in 1970. Erik moved to Florida to open a branch office of his Binghamton, New York, law firm Hinman, Howard & Kattell in 1980. Erik practiced in the Estate and Trust Planning and Administration areas along where he contributed invaluably to the creation and management of numerous charitable organizations.

During the 1970s, Erik served as President of the New York State Association of Young Republican Clubs, co-chaired a successful campaign committee for the election of Charles Breitel as Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals and worked on several projects for Nelson A. Rockefeller. Erik was also a member of the Council of the Village of Golf, Florida and served as the village's Vice-major for 11 years.

Chevalier Erik was a member of the The Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller and knighted in 2002; and subsequently obtained the prestigious rank of Knight of Grace for over 20 years. Erik served in various ways throughout this community.

Erik proudly impacted lives with his work at the American Red Cross as a leadership volunteer for 25 years. He held positions at both the local chapter level as well as at the national level including.

Chapter Chairman, member of Eastern Operations Headquarters Council Chairman, Florida State Chairman, National Board of Governors, Biomedical Board, chaired the Subcommittee for Strategic Planning, Audit Committee, Disaster Committee and chaired a Board Task Force on Disaster Fund Raising.

Erik received the Harriman Award, the highest award given by the American Red Cross at any level, for Exceptional Leadership from the American Red Cross in 2001. Erik is credited "with saving many lives" during his days of disaster relief and management. He was honored to be named the first Honorary Red Cross Nurse by the Red Cross National Nursing Committee and received the first Honorary Nursing Pin with No. I inscribed on it. Erik is the only volunteer in the American Red Cross who is eligible to wear the following recognition pins: Former Governor Pin, Honorary Nursing Pin, Harriman Award and 25-year pin.

Erik successfully coached crew at Dartmouth College and football at Christian Brothers Academy. He enjoyed his contribution as a football official at the high school, college, and professional levels for 34 seasons serving as the Supervisor of Officials for high school and professional leagues. He was honored as one of the highest ranked football officials in Florida by the Florida High School Athletic Association in 1995.

Most recently, Erik was President of Continental Corporation of Boston, Massachusetts. He served as Trustee for Florida Institute of Technology, Albany Law School, the Gertrude E Skelly Charitable

Foundation, the William J. Conners and Barbara S. Conners Charitable Foundation, the Max Planck Florida Institute Foundation and Colby Sawyer College in New London, N.H. He was a member of the Board of Stewards for the Dartmouth College Rowing club, member of Quinnipiac University School of Nursing Advisory Board, Director of Lincoln First Trust Company of Florida, and President of the Florida Governor's Hurricane Conference. He was a retired member of several other corporate and charitable boards in New York State and in Florida.

Erik was a member of the American Bar Association, New York and Florida Bars. He was a member of the New York Bar's House of Delegates and chaired the Ethics Committee for the Florida Bar. Erik has been listed in "Outstanding Young Men of America", "Who's Who in American Politics" and "Who's Who in American Law." Erik was awarded the Steward's Award, Distinguished Service Award, elected as Honorary Member of Sigma Theta Tau, Knighted in 2002 by the sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, Dean's Award, Honorary Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.

Erik is survived by his wife Caroline Partin Joh, stepchildren: Jeremy, Jason, Noelle, Carrie. His brother John Joh, sister in law Janey Joh , two nieces Susanne Reinhard and Elizabeth Joh. Predeceased brother Gale Joh.

Erik will also be remembered for his immeasurable impact which will live on forever and all the lives he forever changed with his generosity, wisdom, and loving friendship. Erik chose to generously donate his body to further research Alzheimer's, Lewy Body and Parkinson Disease and to continue to impact lives for generations to come. A memorial service will be held on May 23rd at 10am to 12pm at Quattlebaum Funeral Home: 5411 Okeechobee Blvd in West Palm Beach, Fl. For those out of state or out of the area his service will be streamed live. More information forthcoming on the streaming.
