Harriette Claire Herbert was born on March 30, 1940 at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida. The second of three daughters born to Mr. Harry Herbert, from Belleville, IL and Mrs. Antoinette Herbert (nee’ Weber) from Yazoo City, MS. Her sisters were Marguerite and Jean Herbert.
Harriette was raised at 411 26th Street in Northwood Village. She attended St. Ann Catholic School, in Downtown West Palm Beach, where she was a cheerleader, from elementary to high school, graduating in 1958. During her childhood, she created friendships that lasted a lifetime. She cherished many memories of growing up in Palm Beach County, such as, football games, bike rides to Palm Beach and driving her 57’ Chevy to The Hut.
In 1962, at the age of 22, Harriette married Stephen Bradley Ross III in a ceremony at St. Ann Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall. They welcomed their first daughter, Vicki Lynn Ross, in 1963 and their second daughter, Cynthia Lee Ross, in 1968. The family lived in West Palm Beach and in 1979 moved to Lake Clarke Shores where Harriette would call home for the next 45 years, until her passing.
A hard worker, Harriette was employed by Western Electric (later known as Bellsouth, AT&T, and Lucent Technologies) for 40+ years until her retirement.
In 1993, Harriette became a grandmother to her granddaughter, Casey Lynn Wallace and in 1998 to her granddaughter, Cameron Paige Haines.
Harriette was a very loving, caring and positive person with a big heart. She was able to make lasting friendships anywhere she went and would go above and beyond to help others. Well known for her love of dogs, especially Dobermans, Harriette had a strong passion for helping animals in need. She was vibrant, enjoyed life and always had faith in God.
A few of Harriette’s favorite things were time spent with family and friends, volunteering at her granddaughter’s school, Church, holidays (her favorite, Christmas), going out for food and drinks, traveling, shopping, gardening, animals, her morning coffee, the color purple, and exercising (aerobics, rollerblading, walking, karate). Above all, her favorite thing in life was being a mother and grandmother.
Her family will miss her dearly, think about her daily, and hold her forever in their hearts. She created memories they will cherish and traditions they will carry on.
